"The things we take for granted are the things we long for the most when they're gone"
After bringing up the idea to my instagram story, I learnt from friends' kind responses that most of us have that little things that we have been taking for granted in this life. Things that worth so much more than we realise but we kind of forget just because we got them by grace, we got them already, and we got them without sacrificing much of ourselves. Little do we know, these things we take for granted, they are not going to be there forever and always and that is exactly why I wish for us all to take a moment to embrace it all and give these things more credit that we gave them for these things deserves so much more than this.
Life.
How often is it we forget that each day when we are able to open up our eyes to the bright sunlight is a grace in itself. It doesn't matter how hard, how miserable, how boring, how lonely you might feel your days currently are, the very basic idea that we are still granted another day is something to be grateful for. Me myself deals with occasional suicidal thoughts as I am one of those people who would love to give away my life right here right now if given the chance but a friend reminded me once that if we still can see another day, then it simply means that our tasks here on earth are not finished yet. So the next time any of you think about giving up and surrender to that haunting suicidal thoughts? Just don't quit and fight through it. You know, you're not alone.
Time.
Time is irreversible and time is a constraint indeed. Sometimes we feel like 24 hours a day is not enough but it has got to be since it's all any of us has ever had. The problem is, with this 24 hours, we need to be careful as how to allocate it. It's a matter of prioritisation. It's a matter of being wise with procrastination. It's a matter of respecting yours and other's time as we never have "enough" of it. Like the old saying goes, just because you could does not mean you should. Just because you could spend hours and hours doing something does not mean you should.
Family.
Our parents, our grandparents, our siblings, our "other" family, none of them are perfect. None. If they make mistake, you forgive. If they need your help, you prioritise them. You might not know it yet, but they are the closest thing to unconditional love that we do get the privilege to experience each day. They have done so much to get us to who we are today. So freaking much that we basically are nothing without them. If you are currently fortunate enough to have a supporting family and they are still around with you today, make sure to always treat them right with respect and with love because you and I have no idea what it felt like to wishing just for another minute with them.
People.
All the people you've got by your side today. Your boyfriend/girlfriend, your friends. Their presence, their attention, their willingness to stay with you through your ups and downs, they deserve your best. They don't deserve to be treated like crap just because we are not in the mood. They deserve a sincere thank you, a company in return, ears to share stories with, shoulders to cry on, laughters to be bounce around in the room for they got you through it all. Learn to not hurt them with your words when you are angry, not to ruin the years of relationship out of misunderstanding and miscommunications, not to put your ego first, and not to ever take them for granted. If they are here with you today, you appreciate that the best way you know how to. As for the happy moments you got to share with them, cherish them with all you've got. It's never too much to take a photograph to keep (not to always share on social media, just for you personally) for at least those photographs can remember for you when you can't.
All the other little things.
A beautiful city with clean air, a future, yourself with all your imperfections, internet connection, meals cooked by your mom, hope, love, dream, birthday celebration,...... (that's for you to fill in).
They all can't be taken for granted. They deserve more than that.
Each and everyone including everything are precious and today I learnt that there is so much thing to be grateful for.
